Meeting Marike Dette you know you have a big personality to deal with! South African by origin, Marike is the force behind Blue Mango located in the City Business Centre by the roundabout on Lower Road. I met Marike for the first (and probably only) time, I sat at one of the manicure stations.
So what’s distinctive about Blue Mango? Why would you come here rather than another ‘nail bar’?
It’s the relationships we form with our clients.We are a maintenance salon and our customer service speaks for itself, may it be for a skin treatment, botox, nails or permanent make up, we want you to feel pampered and at ease. On arrival, you’ll be spoiled with a artisan drink from our coffee and wine bar featuring blends from South Africa of course! We also make a mean hot chocolate with marshmallows that will soothe away all your worries. We work quickly and effortlessly combine treatments to save you time.
We’re a bunch of education nerds here in the Mango and love helping with any skincare advice. We are a Dermalogica exclusive salon and have been awarded as a DermCircle 2015 skin centre which basically means we are the shizzle when it comes to skin treatments with all the therapists at Expert levels in training and product knowledge. Dermalogica is free from fragrance, colouring and nasties. Our beauty team are trained professionals who all create a positive environment where clients can ask questions and know they are getting real answers. This is not a luxury. There’s no vanity in enhancing your natural beauty
How did you come to be making such an impact in the area? What steps got you here?
Well, we arrived from South Africa in 2007 when the areas was the place to find other South Africans. I’d run a business back home and so started out in a space at Seven Islands Leisure Centre. Happily trading and growing there for five years until in November 2012 we were bursting at the seams and needed more space. We found the unit in City Business Centre and completely renovated it before opened in January 2013 with a modern skin centre. I was so excited to show all our clients the beautiful new space I had created for them and to introduce them to the extensive new treatment list.
So what other services do you offer today?
We soon added a hair lab which offers all the treatments you’d expect from your 
hairdresser. We are properly equipped for our surgeon-dentist who offers cosmetic dental services that include scale, polish and teeth-whitening. Our ENT surgeon offers our clients options such as botox, fillers and liquid face lifts. When people seek semi-permanent make-up – for example to cover a mastectomy scar or replace their eyebrows or just fabulous eye liner – we do it all with loads of support and love. We have a Ellips IPL+ laser that aids in many a skin treatment like hair reduction, skin rejuvenation, acne scarring and pigmentation control. We operate on an appointment only basis so clients get a very personal service even at our busier times.

So what’s in the future? What plans do you have?
The future is full of bright stars for Blue Mango. We’re planning to grow yet again so we have more space in our medical centre and can expand the hair lab and our range of services. I think there is no vanity in enhancing your natural beauty and we want to see more people from the area looking their best.
