Tunnel of Love
14 February 2016
Event info
Stoop through a short tunnel to descend into a subterranean amphitheatre half the size of Shakespeare’s Globe. The Grand Entrance Hall has been unused and inaccessible for 150 years but the Brunel Museum presents an unusual tour based on history and romance in the chamber. Museum director Robert Hulse will lead you down the staircase and tell the story of Brunel’s first romance: a story of love and abandonment, revolution and constancy. As well as an engineer, Brunel was a French naval officer and so his lover was the French Lieutenant’s woman. Come hear their story in the world’s largest underground meeting hall for lovers.
