Sport in SE16
With the London Marathon almost on us (24 April) and Spring bringing leaves to the trees and young to the wildlife, we have today published our fifth free magazine all about SE16. This quarter’s issue is all about sport in the area – from cycle speedway in the 1950s to the return of Fisher FC to their new ground on Salter Road, from our prize winning table tennis club to what to do to stay fit when an active sportsperson. We bring you news about the new athletics centre shaping up in Southwark Park and introduce you to Bacons College Sports Centre, a fantastic community facility and a somewhat hidden gem. We’ve interviews with Ruth Eytle of British Wheelchair Basketball about the sport and our local club and with Richard White of Millwall Community Trust about their project to get people with dementia playing walking football.
“…We’ve showcased the local aikido dojo and for those who are looking for a gentler activity, our local free chess club…”
The marathon is coming
We have provided you with a pull-out map of the Marathon route together with some great places to watch the race unfold. We’ve also featured three local runners who are supporting local charities, so do look them out and give them your support. We’ve showcased the local aikido dojo and for those who are looking for a gentler activity, our local free chess club. You can make a start on the new you with Bootcamp SE16 who are featured in the magazine too. And our regular features about volunteer opportunities and what’s happening this month in SE16 are all still there.
